New York's 1Home of

ART LOGISTICS

1HomeOffice has been the “go to” resource for New York galleries, auction houses, art sellers andcollectors for decades.

De-Install, Moving, Storage & Installation

Our white glove services in the most elite New York
buildings are delivered by expert handlers, fully insured,
and thoroughly trained in art logistics.

Our movers show up neatly attired, wear shoe covers in
homes and nitrile gloves when handling art. We use
specially made “carrying crates” when moving art from
galleries to homes. We are familiar with the BOL and
paperwork requirements from the major auction houses
whose logistics facilities are all outside Manhattan.

Local Transport and Shipping

We can move art from anywhere in New York to anywhere in the tri-state area, usually on short notice and often same day. We can also organize shipping across the country or around the world.

We are experts in both domestic and international shipping and fully versed in all documentation requirements.

Artwork shipped by small package carriers is the most economical but also requires careful consideration of packaging requirements.
Your precious property is moving on the same conveyors as
millions of pounds of pedestrian cargo. The “handle with care” sticker can read like “go ahead, bounce me off the back of the truck.” We’ll help you navigate the balance between cost conscious and safe delivery

Record of Custody

Once we receive your art or antique piece, we confirm measurements, weight, and materials. Our art packing studio is a segregated from retail customer interaction and monitored by video surveillance. High Energy Particulate Air (HEPA) filters maintain a clean air environment. At multiple stages of the packaging or crating process, your art or antique is photographed to document its condition and packing standards. This is especially important if any insurance claim is required after the shipment leaves our location.

We work with the leading New York art insurance brokers and can usually get a same day quote upon submission of an application.

We know that the important insurance considerations, after proof of value, all relate to how the art is handled, packaged and transported and how all the steps along the way are documented.

Soft Packing

Our first move in every assignment is to understand the value and condition of the art and the most economical way to get it from origin to destination safely.

The recommended method is often soft packing but even this involves tricks of the trade with high strength corrugated boxes, lauan board liners and double boxing that meets insurance standards for best practice packaging.

Custom Crating

If your art or antique is too big and/ or too valuable for soft
packing we’ve got you covered with a fully equipped and
stocked onsite millwork shop, staffed with expert carpenters who have been making art crates for years.

Designed for safety and economy.

Crating design and construction takes into account the weight, strength and cost of the crating materials. The walls of most crates are made of plywood. For maximum impact and puncture protection we may use ¾” plywood. To save weight and cost without compromising safety we may use ½” plywood or even ¼” with exterior framing made of pine boards.

The interior packing materials and bracing are as important as the exterior shell of the crate. For internal packing and bracing, we take into account the size, condition and value of the object as well as the method of travel and distance to the destination.

Considering Speed, Quality and Price

Most services require you to pick one out of three or two out of three of the above variables.

With a centrally located facility, stocked with everything we need and staffed with dedicated professionals, we can deliver all three – speed, quality, and price.

People Are Talking About Us!

Don’t take our word for it. Here’s what our customers have to say on Yelp.
The 1HomeOffice team (Steve is the best!) are amazing and the best thing that happened to my business. I’m an artist who also runs an art gallery in New York City and they stepped in to provide not just shipping services but also full customer service and product logistics for Surfergirl Gallery Their service is top class, take a look at the type of custom crating my artwork now safely travels in. We’re moving valuable artwork across the country and internationally and I would not trust anyone else to do it. They offer operations help and marketing advice, they care about my business. No job is too big or too small and their response time is lighting fast. To top it off, they’re an absolute pleasure to work and well priced. Thank you 1HomeOffice, you are my secret weapon!
“They crated and shipped artwork to our vacation home in the Bahamas Everything arrived in perfect condition. They were a pleasure to do business with”
My dad recently passed away and I had to ship some artwork across as the country. The service that Danny and Steve at Mailed (1HomeOffice) on 8th Ave was fantastic. Very respectful of the art pieces I was shipping, and the wood shipping crate they built was so strong that it would have taken a news worthy disaster to cause any damage to the contents. I don’t want to throw it away… I think I need to make a little shed or dog house out of the high quality wood!! Thank you Danny and Steve for getting this done with zero surprises.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our expert packing, shipping solutions, art handling, dimensional weight pricing, and materials guidelines — all in one place.

What is Pack & Ship at 1HomeOffice?

Pack & Ship is a comprehensive service that helps you prepare and ship items of all shapes and sizes — from everyday packages to fragile, high-value, or irregular-shaped pieces. We offer guidance, packing, and shipping solutions that take the guesswork and stress out of sending items safely.

We work with major carriers to give you a range of options, from economy ground delivery to expedited or international services. Each carrier has different strengths — for example:

  • USPS tends to be the most economical for small packages
  • FedEx excels in fast, time-defined delivery
  • UPS has extensive ground services
  • DHL focuses on international delivery coverage

Our team will help you choose based on your needs, budget, and destination.

You can fill out the Shipping Estimator form with details such as:

  • What you’re shipping
  • Whether the item is fragile
  • Approximate dimensions (L × W × H)
  • Weight

We’ll reply with a personalized quote based on that information.

Shipping carriers often charge based on DIM weight, which considers the amount of space a package takes up, not just its scale weight. If your package is light but large, the DIM weight may be higher than its actual weight, increasing shipping costs. Efficient packing can help reduce DIM weight charges.

Yes. Our Professional Packing Services can:

  • Customize box sizes for efficient shipping
  • Use internal blocking, bracing, and impact-resistant padding
  • Recommend box-in-box techniques for fragile or valuable items

Often, the cost you save on reduced carrier charges outweighs the packing fee — and you gain peace of mind knowing your item is packed by experts.

Submit a simple form with:

  • What you’re shipping
  • Whether it contains fragile materials
  • Item dimensions and weight

We’ll provide a quote so you can decide before any work begins.

To ensure safe transit:

  • Use sturdy corrugated boxes with intact flaps
  • Do not use lightweight gift or shoe boxes as the primary shipping container
  • Heavy or fragile items should be box-in-box packed with 3″ (≈8 cm) of cushioning between boxes
  • Wrap liquids in sealed plastic bags
  • Include inside labels with both sender and recipient information
  • Use strong tape (not duct or masking tape), applying the H-taping method

Following these guidelines helps protect items and prevent damage.

Yes — we offer specialized Art Packaging & Shipping services for unique, valuable, or delicate pieces. This includes:

  • A consultation to discuss your art logistics
  • Custom packing solutions (such as crating and double-boxed protection)
  • Photographic documentation of packaging stages
  • Coordination with carriers and customs documentation for domestic or international shipment

We’ll provide a written quote detailing packaging, transportation, and all associated costs before work begins

Shipping costs depend on multiple factors, including:

  • Origin & destination
  • Choice of delivery speed
  • Package dimensions and weight (actual vs DIM weight)
  • Carrier service level

Our team will explain these elements and help you choose the best options for your budget and timeline.

Absolutely. We have experience packing:

  • Fragile objects
  • Irregular or oddly shaped pieces
  • Items with sharp edges or points

We use extra wrapping and cushioning and can suggest the best methods to stabilize these items for transit.

After submitting the estimator or packing quote form, our team will reply shortly with your personalized estimate and options.
